Sensible first steps
- If you have a recent injury, severe pain, numbness or swelling, see a doctor or physiotherapist before starting any exercise programme.
- Follow the plan your physiotherapist or surgeon gives you. MatchFit does not give medical advice.
- Keep a short note of what you do and how you feel the next day. It helps your physiotherapist adjust your plan.
- Keep the rest of your body moving where it is safe to do so. Training around an injury is often possible.
- Expect progress to come in stages, with good weeks and slower ones.
In Hong Kong you can usually book a private physiotherapist directly, without a doctor's referral, although some insurance plans ask for one before they reimburse. Check your policy before your first appointment.
Many people move from physiotherapy to a personal trainer once they are cleared for more activity. Some professionals cover both, which can make that handover smoother. A good trainer will ask for your physiotherapist's guidance and stay within it, rather than guessing.
How matching helps
Tell us about your injury in as much or as little detail as you are comfortable with. We use it only to find professionals who list relevant experience, such as knee, back or post surgery rehab, in districts and languages that suit you.
